How Pilates in Singapore Help in Degenerative Disc—A True Account!
When she was 25, Emma Clayton was diagnosed with degenerative disc. She started suffering from lingering lower back pain. The discomfort affected her hips, buttocks, and legs. Major symptoms included acute pain that radiated down her hips and she had some numbness radiating down the back of her leg.
Emma was worried about how her condition and fearful it would become severe. She sought the professional help of an orthopaedic surgeon. But nothing alleviated her pain. In the end, the surgeon gave her 2 options, operation or do some form of physical therapy like pilates.
Emma started researching on pilates and how it could help her. By chance, she heard about Pilates pain relief treatment in one of the pilates studios in Singapore. Emma started on a pilates pain relief program specific to her degenerative disc injury under the guidance of a certified pilates instructor. To her surprise, it turned out to be the most valuable investment she had made. The effective program helped her to get her life back. She now recommends Pilates pain relief for the treatment of back pain to people who needs it.
What is Degenerative Disc?
Degenerative disc injury stands to be among the top causes of lower back pain. There are many misconceptions about the condition. From the name, you would surely think that it is a progressive and threatening condition. But in reality, it is not unless you experience huge pain.
It should be clarified that degenerative disc is an issue that comes with age, bad posture and form. As we age in years, so does our spine. And it can even mean if you are 25 years of age, your spine can be older than you are. Disc degeneration can worsen over time if not looked into. Not all people have the same symptoms due to differences in the state of wear and tear. There could be variability in its severity and nature.
Singapore Pilates and Degenerative Disc
Pilates exercises has a long standing relationship with the dealing of back pain relief. In Singapore Pilates Central & Rehabilitation, the Pilates back relief exercises prescribed work very closely at helping the vertebrae of the spine to articulate and start moving. It is definitely rehabilitative in nature. The exercises work effectively to get stubborn or stiff back muscles to move. The aim is to get the back to return to function. In the process, it also strengthens the abdominal and back muscles. And as your core gets stronger, it becomes more stable and flexible. Good posture is promoted.
What Kind of Degenerative Disc Exercises?
In Singapore Pilates Central & Rehabilitation, anyone with a medical condition like degenerative disc will work under the guidance of a well trained pilates instructor who is experienced to handle the case. This is to ensure your pilates exercise program would be effective and you sustain no further injury. Very specific degenerative disc exercises are required.
You will be given an initial assessment on the state of health of your condition before you start. Your program should include movement specific to the lower back, like arching and curling (within doable range) and gentle side to side rocking of the pelvis when lying on your back. To achieve better strength of the back, back extension exercises are necessary.
Specific Pilates exercises for the back include cat stretch, swan, table top and more. In table top, you extend opposite arms and legs from a “on all four’s” position. Some routines need to be modified depending on your strength and condition.
All these pilates routines help to lower nerve pressure, correct spine misalignment and promote blood flow. It also helps to increase space between your discs, bringing about lesser decompression. Muscles can relax when there is no nerve impingement and compression.
Degenerative disc exercises are aimed at eliminating pain, building strength, and gently release tight back muscles. But it must be emphasized that you must perform these Pilates pain relief routines under the supervision of an experienced professional to avoid further pulling / straining of any weak muscles.Check out the instructor’s credentials that is handling you if you have a specific condition. Your pilates instructor must be experienced to do pilates rehabilitation and not general pilates classes!

How A Dance Studio, Yoga Studio And Pilates Studio Can Share The Same Space

How A Dance Studio, Yoga Studio And Pilates Studio Can Share The Same Space
In today’s tough economic climate, it can be difficult to make ends meet, and especially if you are working at a creative endeavor, such as running an exercise studio. In this type of economic environment, the studios that stay solvent and earn money are those that are diversified. If you are looking for a studio floor that will work for a variety of exercise activities, a sprung floor is appropriate for not only dance, but can also be used for yoga and pilates classes as well. A wood dance floor that features a sprung floor can be used for teaching dance on some days, pilates on others and yoga for the remaining days, thus providing you a more consistent student pool and revenue.
The reason why a sprung floor works so well for not only dance but also for yoga and pilates is the fact that it is very resilient. What this means is that it provides a certain amount of spring, or bounce, when a person jumps or pounds on it with their feet. It offers some give when pressure it placed upon it, and thus it offers a safer surface for physical activities such as dance, pilates and yoga.
A yoga floor as well as a floor for pilates needs some type of cushioning. This is because both of these types of classes take place with the student lying or sitting on the floor to perform most of the exercises. Exercise mats are also used on top of the flooring to provide even greater protection for wrists and knees and other body parts that will bear weight as the exercises are performed.
A dance floor also needs a springy surface to protect the dancer’s body. Over time, dancing on a too-hard surface can result in damage sustained by the spine, bones and joints, and the dancer can end up with permanent damage to the body. Instead, wooden dance flooring that is smooth and made from durable hardwood, used in conjunction with cushioning above the subflooring and below the dance surface results in the perfect surface for jazz, tap, ballet or modern dancing. It is also an exemplary surface for yoga and pilates, and consequently many studios can provide the diverse class offerings that students like, and thus can attract a greater number of students to their studios. The flooring used is the basis for this diverse use, and teachers in all three disciplines should be aware of this fact for improved student physical health as well as broader use of and increased revenue potential from the same appropriate studio space.
